It is hard to believe how far the social networking site Facebook has come along since its birth. According to recent results, Americans seem to be getting their desired online content from their friends  on facebook rather than from random websites they would have otherwise found through Google search.

This seems to be the case according to a report published by Internet research company Hitwise, which says that Facebook just nudged past Google in terms of weekly traffic as visits to the social-networking site constituted 7.07% of total web visits compared to Google’s 7.03 %. This is the first time Google has lost its top spot since Setp 15, 2007.

The thing to be noted here is that the company that beat Google in 2007 as the most visited site was Myspace. This leaves us with the question, is Facebook the new Myspace ? Will it face the same fate ? Only time will tell.
