This tip is for quick access to Mac’s System Preferences and a go go go on any MacBook or MacBook Pro and any other Mac connected to a new Apple Keyboard (with defined functions on F keys).
Here’s how you can do it: hold down the option key and hit the function keys
- Option + Brightness = Display preference pane
- Option + Expose = Expose preference opens up
- Option + Volume Control = Sound Preferences
And it goes on…

…And yet there’s no easy way to simply get to the main System Preferences menu with a keyboard shortcut. FAIL.
I DO access Sys Prefs several times a month, but rarely do I specifically need to access my Exposé prefs, volume prefs, brightness prefs, etc. Get what I mean?
(Maybe it will be fixed in Lion, but I’m not holding my breath.)
